Killer trail / Joseph Chadwick.

Chadwick, Joseph, (author.).

Summary:

"Will Shannon was out on the range stalking a deer when he heard gunshots in the distance. With his sister and her husband visiting his ranch and Apaches in the area, he ran his dun recklessly across the brush-grown land back toward home. The squat buildings of his ranch were not yet visible, but he saw no smoke plumes in the sky. That was encouraging--Apaches liked fire to end a raid. As he approached the ranch he saw, not Apaches, but three renegades--including a giant of a black man who shot Will's horse out from under him before riding out. Then, Will's worst fears were realized: his sister and brother-in-law were shot dead. Will didn't know who the men were or why they had killed his family, but he vowed to find them and see them hang. On the long trail to justice, Will and the black man, Ben Murdock, find themselves forced, through injuries and Indian attacks, to work together to survive instead of killing each other. Along the way, he discovers that Murdock did not kill his sister and was only out for revenge against his brother-in-law for a wrong done to him. When the pair come upon a stage station under attack by Apaches, Will fights alongside Murdock to save the people at the station but he's still determined to bring Murdock to justice--if he can survive!"--Provided by publisher.
