Born in Budapest in 1906, she apprenticed to a guild of potters as a teenager before working in Germany, Vienna, and Russia, where she was imprisoned by Stalin for 16 months. She eventually landed in New York with her husband Hans in 1938 where her organic shapes, toned colors, and sense of fun and play defined the American postwar period. The recipient of many lifetime achievement awards, Zeisel eventually branched out into glassware and furniture and died in 2011 at the age of 105. In this TEDTalk, Zeisel looks back on a 75-year career and the line she debuted in 2008.9 & up.Mode of access: Internet.System requirements: FOD playback platform.Title from distributor's description.

Libertad! / by ARTE France(DLC)1562373; Films Media Group,film distributor.(DLC)1996584;
The interwar period is significant for its tumults of enthusiasm and illusion. Communism is a tempting alternative, and the desire for social, moral, artistic, and political revolution hangs in the air... In 1936, war erupts in Spain. Malraux and Hemingway are covering the Republicans' struggle as journalists, and photos by Capa and Gerda Taro get published in the international press, fostering a broader awareness of the conflict. In April 1937, the Guernica massacre inspires Picasso to create a monumental canvas symbolizing the violence perpetrated by Franco's supporters and by fascism more generally. The Spanish Republic is lost, and one war ends as another begins.9 & up.Streaming video file.System requirements: FOD playback platform.Title from distributor's description (Films Media Group, July 2, 2016)

The Enchanters of Montparnasse / by ARTE France(DLC)1562373; Films Media Group,film distributor.(DLC)1996584;
The war has ended, and the streets erupt in celebration. Montparnasse swings to the rhythms of jazz and hops to the buzz of lively cafés. Paris is a movable feast. Conceived as reactions against the absurdity of war, the Dadaist and Surrealist revolutions are underway. Leading the charge are "the three musketeers": Breton, Aragon, and Soupault, backed by Man Ray, Desnos, Tzara, and many others. In 1919, one of the major works of the Surrealist movement is unveiled: Les Champs magnétiques. The model Kiki, revered by every painter of the day and poised to be crowned queen of Montparnasse, has a tumultuous love affair with Man Ray before he takes off with Lee Miller.9 & up.Streaming video file.System requirements: FOD playback platform.Title from distributor's description (Films Media Group, July 2, 2016)

Midnight in Paris / by Carné, Marcel,director.(DLC)1696415; ARTE France(DLC)1562373; Films Media Group,film distributor.(DLC)1996584;
Directed by Marcel Carné.World War Two erupts, and France mobilizes its war effort. After the debacle of June 1940 and the Occupation of Nazi Germany, Europe is in tatters, and artists and intellectuals flee in droves. Old friends among those who stay behind are eventually torn apart. Some collaborate, some resist - many make do as they can, and others pay for their commitment with their lives. When the war at last is over, Paris reawakens to find that an astonishing work has been created from within its war-torn midst: the film Les Enfants du paradis, a homage to freedom written by Jacques Prévert and masterfully directed by Marcel Carné.9 & up.Streaming video file.System requirements: FOD playback platform.Title from distributor's description (Films Media Group, July 2, 2016)

The Helping Hands Of Contemporary Art / by ARTE France(DLC)1562373; Films Media Group,film distributor.(DLC)1996584;
Leading contemporary artists delegate whole sections of the production of their works. Increasingly today, contemporary art is the result of a collective effort. Engineers, designers, architects, artisans, workers, glass-makers, smelters, blacksmiths, coppersmiths, jewelry-makers, "highbrows" and "helping hands", whether they possess high-tech or ancestral know-how -they all work in the shadows to produce today's art. This documentary follows the production of three works from conception to completion. These include Korean artist Lee Ufan's large scale work of boulders and metal sheets installed in the Versailles Palace Gardens; Norwegian conceptual artist Marianne Heske's giant bronze doll head placed in the Torshovdalen Park in Oslo; and French artist Daniel Buren's children's blocks exhibited at the Strasbourg Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.9 & up.Streaming video file.System requirements: FOD playback platform.Title from distributor's description (Films Media Group, October 16, 2016)

Includes bibliographical references (p. 458-462) and index."The third edition of Modern Art, now revised and expanded, narrates one of the great stories of our time - how European and American vanguard culture created modernist art by heeding the call "to make it new." Modern Art captures the sense of intellectual and aesthetic ferment through the close integration of its authoritative text and nearly nine hundred well-chosen illustrations. Right up through the present day, coverage ranges across a broad spectrum of visual arts, from painting, sculpture, and photography to conceptual forms, installation and video art, and architecture."--BOOK JACKET.
