Retired United States Coast Guard Captain Bill Peterson recounts the complex, dangerous mission to rescue those survivors, where he served as a helicopter pilot. His account of the mission puts the entire rescue into historical context, including Attu during World War II, Alaska Native history, and Coast Guard aviation history.
